Dr Shabbir M Moochhala

Associate Professor Shabbir Moochhala is an Adjunct Associate Professor jointly at the Department of Surgery and Pharmacology of the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore. He is also currently both Innovation Director at Fifth Sense (a pharmaceutical and neutraceutical company, Director at G.R.A.I.N International (a plant science solution provider) and Director of Chemtron Pte Ltd (a solution provider for additive technology). He holds a consultation position at Temasek Polytechnic to bridge R&D from Defence, SMEs and Multinationals into commercial products and services. As a distinguished member of the technical staff (DMTS) at the DSO National Laboratories previously, he had done pioneering R&D work and successfully completed several defence projects in the area of screening, diagnostics and management of soldier performance and survivability in the field.

He was for many years Centre Head of Molecular Diagnostics (CMD) and later as Head Centre for Research and Opportunities in Plant Sciences (C.R.O.P.S) at Temasek Polytechnic (TP).  His rich industrial expertise guided TP’s CMD and CROPS towards fulfilling its objectives for student training and staff development in the field of molecular diagnostics and plant sciences. He has 221 international and local journals (including 11 review papers), 4 patents, 3 book chapters and more than 300 conference proceedings to his credit. He obtained his BSc (Hons) in Pharmacology from the University of Aberdeen and his PhD (Pharmacology) from the University of Dalhousie.
